Prom Theme and Location Announced

February 11, 2019

Every year, Academy hosts a prom for juniors and seniors. The prom committee, which is comprised a group of juniors and led by school counselor, Emily Pantelis, plans and organizes the prom. On Friday’s convocation ceremony, the prom theme and location were announced.

The prom committee made a video in order to announce the location and theme. They interviewed many students around high school and asked what they believed the theme of prom was going to be. Many students believed the theme was going to be ‘Under the Sea.’

This year, prom will be held at the Italian Club in Ybor City on Mar. 30 from 6:00 p.m-11:00 p.m. The theme is “La Vita É Bella,”or  “Life Is Beautiful”.

Kathia Guzman (‘20) says, “We went through so many themes this year so we could find the perfect one. We ended up choosing ‘La Vita É Bella’ because it is original and we think that life is beautiful because of our sisterhood. We should all celebrate that.”

There are three options for dinner for prom this year. The options are chicken, shortribs, and a vegan steak. When choosing dinner, the prom committee works hard on crafting a menu that will cater to the needs of almost every student.

Pantelis says, “The committee and I spent a lot of time at the beginning of the year scouting out locations and meeting with caterers. We work hard so that the juniors and seniors can have a fun night that is also sophisticated.”

Last year, Prom was held at the Floridan Hotel. The theme was ‘A Night with Gatsby.’

Tickets will be sold from Feb. 11 through Mar. 8. Discounted ticket prices will be sold through Feb. 22. These discounted prices will be $75 for an individual, or $115 per couple. Tickets will return to their normal prices after Feb. 22 and will be $80 for an individual and $125 per couple.

Guzman says, “I hope the students pay attention to the history and character of the building. We spent a lot of time choosing the perfect venue and we chose a place that has a lot of history, just like our sisterhood.”

Anamaria Lefler (‘19) says, “I am really excited for prom this year. It is my last dance here at Academy, which is kind of sad. I really like the theme and location and I think it will be a great night.”
