In celebration of Women’s History Month, the Achona Staff wanted to recognize the iconic female characters that shaped our childhoods. These long-standing original “girl-bosses” provided role models for young girls, showcasing their different types of spunky personalities while also teaching that it’s okay to be your true self no matter the circumstances. The authors, like Barbara Walters, Jane O’Connor, have impacted the lives of many, including our own Academy Girls. Amalia Pena (’23) said, “When I was little I used to read these books all the time. Junie B. was hilarious and sassy and I appreciated that in a female character. Fancy Nancy was kind and self-aware, she was a real person who made mistakes but always found a way to make things right.” Take the quiz below to find out which childhood female girl-boss you are.
