On Wednesday, February 29, the junior class took the day to contemplate their future plans for the college application process. College Counselor Ms. Kerry Keegan coordinated the plans for the day.
The senior panel briefed juniors on their experiences on the college application process. The panel included Christina Lodato, Emily Joseph, Darby Meade, Christine Holcomb, Aubrey McGuire, Katie Elliot, and Valerie Banks.
Lodato informed the class about her softball recruitment process. Holcomb briefed the group on early decision, and others talked about their own experiences in applying to college, including the early-action application process, writing essays, managing time to meet deadlines, and establishing relationships with the admissions representatives.
Ms. Keegan also planned a college admission panel, with Dana Dolbow from Catawba College, Reggie Hill from Saint Leo University, and Annie Richardson from the University of Central Florida. Each admission representative discussed the advantages of small, medium or large schools and advised students as to qualities most desirable for an ideal applicant.
Sister Mary Patricia Plumb led a prayer service to kick off the day, followed by bagels and activities. The activities informed the girls how to stand out to admission representatives in the applicant pool and provided information about the college application process in general.
In addition, juniors selected their classes for the following year and started to assemble their activity resumes. Once the day came to a close, the juniors left feeling more informed, motivated, and even a little stressed about the upcoming process they will encounter very soon.
