AHN’s Open House received a tremendous response, with a record high of nearly 150 families in attendance. Prospective students and their families enjoyed food, presentations about the school and its traditions, and tours of the campus.
As Director of Admissions Mrs. Doherty said, this was a very “student driven” event. Girls in the Ambassadors club led families on tours around campus, while other students gathered in the Brady Center to represent their clubs such as Teen Leadership Council, Golden Girls, and Multimedia News.
Many students also volunteered to help teachers with their presentations. Demonstrations by AHN students included those in the art wing, with painting and creating of vessels for ceramics. In the science wing, students performed experiments, including how to make “slime.” Across the street, student athletes gathered to practice and advertise the 14 different sports teams available in the high school. AHN students did a great job of coming out and supporting their school during this event and were very helpful in answering the questions of touring families.
When tours were finished, Student Council hosted a preview of Freshman Orientation for the prospective students. While the student guests enjoyed dancing, singing, and chanting, their parents had the opportunity to ask questions on a one-to-one basis. In the Brady Center, a student panel made up of experienced Academy seniors helped further enlighten parents on the Academy experience.
