Digital Media Club Plans to Bring Back Morning Announcements
October 25, 2017
Throughout past years, Academy students would begin their day in homeroom by watching the morning announcements. However, as a result of the media center being renovated into the new Middle School (thus, there is no more tv studio), coupled with the new schedule change, students no longer have homeroom in the morning, leading to the end of the morning show.
The morning announcements informed students of upcoming events, important service opportunities, and all other information students needed to know. In the past, the show was made possible by the President and Vice President of Student Council, as well as librarian, Emily Swiger. The two heads of Student Council would deliver the announcements, while Swiger controlled the technological side of the show from the control room of the studio.
Gabrielle Boyd (‘19) said, “I liked the morning show because it was funny. I enjoyed the puns they used on the show.”
One of Academy’s newest clubs this year, the Digital Media Club, has been working towards bringing back the morning show. The club was founded by Kathryn Kelly, who works in the communications office. The goal of the Digital Media Club is to offer students a chance to learn more about photography, videography, and graphic design through various activities. For example, the club description states that members of the club will help with events such as Arts Fest.
Members of the Digital Media club are planning to completely revamp the morning show. The club’s goal is to make the show into something that will thoroughly engage the students. Instead of making the morning show daily, the club plans to make one show per week with important information so teachers will feel the need to play it for the class.
In order to get the show up and running, club members approved the project with Assistant Principal, Erin Krukar, first.
Kelly said, “We want to bring back the morning show, but only have the show play once a week. The show will launch in January. We feel like there’s not enough announcements to create a quality show for every school day. Also, the club wants to incorporate new things like sport highlights and the weather. We want to use the time we have during the week to produce a high quality show for Fridays.”
