An Open Letter to AHN Moms

Dear AHN Moms,
First of all, we love you more than anything. We love you, your advice, your ability to shop with us for hours, your fashion sense, and your ability to make us laugh when we can’t do anything but cry. You are our best friend, our rock, our better half, and our biggest supporter in every single thing we do. We don’t say it enough, but we really don’t know what we would do without your unconditional love and support.
Often times, we don’t appreciate you enough. We overlook the little things, and we are sorry. The warm hugs, the “I Love You’s,” the jam sessions in the car, and those few minutes we may spend watching Netflix together. Those are things that we will miss the most in college, and we are learning to appreciate them as that day grows closer. Also, we would like to thank you for hauling us to EVERYTHING. Whether it be dance practice, piano lessons, the mall, lacrosse practice, the movies, dinner, school, or underwater basket weaving, you did it all with a smile on your face and classic oldies on the radio.

You are our role models. We look up to you. We strive to be half of the mother, wife, sister, daughter, friend, and person you are. The irony in that is that we’re quite literally becoming you. We talk like you, we act like you, we sit like you, and we’re even starting to look like you.

Whether you’re an AHN alum or not, you embody “to be, rather than to seem.” Life seems stressful as a high schooler, and then we look at you and realize it’s only an uphill climb, and somehow you seem to do it all gracefully, in heels and a crown on your head. You have taught us to be independent, loving, confident, fierce, and most of all, unapologetically ourselves. You make everything fun and bright, and we admire that about you.

Thank you for the sacrifices you have made for us, in every aspect of your life. We don’t know what we would do without you, and we love you more than anything.
