Traveling During Spring Break

March 23, 2021

Dear Achona,

Would it be advisable to people during spring break to go out or do the right thing and stay indoors as much as possible?

Dear Anonymous,

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that because “travel increases your chance of getting and spreading COVID-19” it is in your best interest — and in the interest of others — to not travel. However, pandemic fatigue or a desire to see family and friends has pushed many to make plans for spring break, and, honestly, I can’t blame you. This pandemic has caused many to feel the effects of COVID-19 mentally as social isolation has led to depression and more, so traveling to see those dear to us might be in our best interest if you fall within this category. On the other hand, if you plan to travel or go out more often simply for the sake of wanting things to return to normal ( in order to “have fun”), then it would not be advisable to travel because it’s not a necessity. Instead, turn to other ways to stay busy and have fun in indoors, such as binging your favorite television series, reading, or staying active by exercising.

However, with that said, if you are traveling, there are steps you can take in order to ensure that you and others will be as safe as possible. Follow the below steps provided by the CDC before and after you travel here.
