The Rise of Instagram Themes
January 26, 2018
Instagram is a social platform that has been around since 2010. The app allows users to share photos and videos, either privately or publicly, with followers. Many Academy students have accounts and post very often. The average amount of posts for an AHN girl ranges from 20-100. No matter the quantity, one thing’s for sure: Academy girls love Instagram themes.
So what is an Instagram theme?
An Instagram theme is all about visual consistency. An individual’s personal style or “aesthetic” can be expressed through a theme in their feed. Whether all of their pictures portray similar color concentration or the type of photo angle remains constant, an Instagram theme depicts a pleasing and somewhat artsy take on a commonly used social media platform.
Junior, Juliana Jett (‘19), has a theme of white and pink, with slightly grainy pictures to add an artistic flair.
Jett says, “I like that Instagram lets you express yourself in a creative way. It’s really fun to edit your pictures, create a theme, and come up with creative captions. My theme is always changing. It tends to be very cool toned in the summer due to my beach posts and tends to have less saturation in the winter.”
Bella Kirkpatrick’s (’18) Instagram follows a theme of red and pink, with prominently high contrast and exaggerated shadows.
One of the best Academy Instagram themes comes from junior, Maddie Troy (‘19).
Troy loves the color yellow and it is widely on display throughout her feed.
“I like how Instagram is a public outlet where I can create what is basically a photo diary of my life,” Troy says, “I would consider my Instagram to have a sunshine theme because yellow is my favorite color- it looks very happy.”
Senior, Talia Sharrieff (‘18), has a very lively and bubbly feed. A hint of red can be detected in each of her posts.
Sharrieff says, “I like how I can share my best and most colorful moments with my followers and how my page really defines my personality, without giving too much away. I’d describe my theme as a combination of spunky and energetic.”
