The Rose

March 17, 2021

This piece was submitted by Julia Dean (’23).

In regards to her work, she writes, “The Rose is a monochromatic painting created using the red value scales with acrylic paint. Throughout the painting, there are many gradients and different values of red used to express texture and definition. I created this painting in dedication to Mrs. Kimbler, AHN’s theatre director and teacher. She has helped me to grow in my talents and express myself through the talents that she has nurtured. I created a rose because after each performance she gives us red roses to commemorate the experience. She is more than just a theatre director to me, she is family and I appreciate her more than she will ever know. I wanted my work to express love, beauty, and compassion, and I thoroughly enjoy how my painting turned out because each of those adjectives are displayed in my end result.”
