Positive Super Bowl Commercials

February 16, 2021

Many of the Super Bowl commercials this year did not quite add up to our expectations. There were a few good ones, though. It was nice to see a confessional positively in the M&M’s commercial and a chapel in Jeep’s commercial. Also, it is always great to see Huggies commercials with the adorable babies and putting pregnancy in a positive light. One commercial that really struck me, though, was Toyota’s commercial about Paralympian Jessica Long.

The commercial is of Jessica swimming through the events of her past. She isn’t introduced yet, and as she turns, the viewer recognized that she had no legs. As she swims, a phone call is overheard. It is an adoption agency, telling a woman of a baby they had found for her.

“She’s in Siberia, and she was born with a rare condition. Her legs will need to be amputated. I know this is difficult to hear; her life won’t be easy.”

Through that phone call, it shows scenes of her racing and cheers when she wins. Then, it returns back to the woman on the phone.

After hesitating, she said, “It might not be easy, but it’ll be amazing.” She leaned forward to grab her husband’s hand and said, “I can’t wait to meet her.”

Jessica Long is a 13-time Paralympic gold medalist. This commercial shows the joy of being pro-life and therefore pro-love. Her adoptive parents gave her a chance and raised her lovingly, which is very pro-life.

As pro-lifers, we sometimes get a bad reputation. We are accused of wanting to control women, only caring about the baby until he or she is born, and many other statements. It is simply not true. As pro-lifers, we know that women deserve better than abortion. It will harm her physically, mentally, and spiritually. No woman should have to go through that. Also, we have so many organizations to help women find a loving family to adopt her baby, supplies if she wants to raise the baby herself and is struggling, English lessons, and healing for women who had an abortion.

I actually live near one of Foundations of Life’s pregnancy centers in Dade City, and they take everything people give to help people in nearby migrant camps. They even have volunteers come in to teach the expectant mothers and their families English. They pick up all of the baby supplies there, and find the support they need. This is what being pro-life is about.

God bless Jessica Long and her family.
