Advent Preparations — I’m Late Too
December 8, 2021
Advent is here and it is time to prepare for the coming of Christ. Right now, we are all slammed with the impending end of semester exams and projects as we try to pull our grades up. You can tell that I am right there with you, as this Advent preparation article is being published halfway through the second week of Advent. Even so, how can we make it meaningful even now, halfway through?
God is always waiting for us to turn to Him, so even if you haven’t done anything yet, He’s waiting with open arms. This is not Lent; we are doing little things to prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ as a little baby. It’s more of a journey with Mary as she experiences the last few weeks before she literally gave birth to God. That’s no small feat. She must have been so excited to have that baby, but also anxious because no one raised God before; she certainly wasn’t given an instruction manual, and all the angel told her was to name Him Jesus. Ok. Talk about radical trust in God.
We need to grow in that trust in our lives as well. This is the whole point of Advent, to make a space in our hearts to love and trust in Him more. Today we celebrate Mary’s Immaculate Conception, when she was conceived without sin to be the perfect mother of God. Not saying that she is God, rather she is the human God chose for this extremely special role. We are certainly not perfect, but we are all chosen by God. To be His. To live out the story He has planned for us. Because His plans are better than ours ever could be.

Now, if you’re like me and a little late to the game, He is still waiting for you. How are you going to grow in trust this Advent?
