Tips for an AHN Second Semester Senior
January 9, 2017
January 4, 2017, marked the first day of the last semester of high school for AHN Seniors- the beginning of the end. The thought of graduation in a few short months comes with mixed emotions: confidence and excitement to move on to bigger and better things, and nervousness to leave home, friends, family, and familiarity. Nevertheless, time is going to fly by, so here are some tips to make the most of the last high school semester.
1. Live in the moment– The familiarity that seniors are feeling right now isnt going to last forever, so enjoy it while you have it. Have fun and do spontaneous things.
2. Steer clear of drama–You will feel better knowing that you stayed out of conflicts and left school on a good note.
3. Take pictures– You are probably going to want to decorate your dorm room with pictures of your home, family, friends, and pets. These pictures also tell a story and help you hold on to fond memories.
4. Take advantage of home cooked meals– After living off of campus food for a while, you will probably start missing home cooked meals.
“I’m going to miss coming home from practice and having a nice dinner ready for me, prepared by my mom or dad,” says senior, Hannah Menendez.
5. Spend more time with your family– College opens a whole new world of independecy; this is when students start to really appreciate the little things their families did for them and miss their their parents even more. It won’t be the same not seeing your family at home every day, so make sure to spend time with them while you can.
Senior, Julia Petrillo says, “I love spending time with my family, so I think it’s going to be hard not being with them as much next year. I know they will be visiting and coming to my soccer games at UCONN though.”
6. Don’t forget about your pets– For some people, leaving their beloved pets behind is the hardest part about going to college. They will miss you too!
Senior, Audrey Dunn says, “I’m going to miss walking in the door after school and my dog jumping all over me in excitement. I’ll also miss her company while I study, because she always sleeps next to me while I sit on my bed.”
7. Rebuilt burnt bridges– You don’t want to leave high school on bad terms with people. Even if you weren’t best friends with everyone, your classmates will always be there for you.
8. Participate as much as possible– Take advantage of every opportunity and go to every event high school has to offer. It makes for good memories after graduation.
For Seniors, the next few months are going to be some of the most fun and memorable times. It’s going to be hard to say goodbye to high school life, but also exciting to embark on awesome, new adventures after graduation.
