When Disney World first opened in 1971, tickets to the parks costed $3.50.

Every year, about 100 girls spend their Mini Course week at the happiest place on Earth: Disney World. This year, Academy teachers and staff members Patty Bohanan (A’77), Beth Chase, Stacy Filocco, Alison Jussaume, Lori Kearney, Kerry Keegan, Melissa LeBlanc, Olivia Martinez (A’10), Jenny VanPelt (A’73), and Anne Mikos Wynn (A’10) chaperoned the trip to Disney.

The students left Academy on Tuesday morning and returned mid day on Friday. While in Orlando, the students spent time at Hollywood Studios, Epcot, and Magic Kingdom.

Disney lifer Isabel Toronzo (’18) spent her all four of her mini course weeks in Orlando. Toronzo said, “Spending my last mini course week at Disney was absolutely amazing. I had 10 incredible girls to spend those three days with. This trip allowed us to bond in a incredible way that words can not explain. Hands down, This trip is my favorite memory out of my four years at AHN. Every year, a senior is given a Mickey Sword to lead the Academy girls out of the park. I was beyond ecstatic that I was chosen.”

“My favorite part was Magic Kingdom and Epcot. I laughed a lot and it was really a fun time to bond and get to know all of my new friends from not only the freshman class but I also got to know some of the wonderful seniors on the trip. I would definitely go back on that trip,” says Sarah Devaney (’21).

Vanessa Davila (’18) reflects on her first time going to Disney for her last mini course week saying, “I wouldn’t have wanted to go for the first time with anyone else. It was so fun and magical, and the group of girls I went with made it so much better. I loved it, I will cherish this trip forever.”
