Beauty Products that “Really Work,” According to Academy Students
February 13, 2017
From popular lipsticks and lip stains to highlighters, there are a few obvious products that stand out and are worth the hype. These products are what Academy girls swear by and take their makeup to a whole other level:
Coconut Oil ($12.00)
Senior Olivia Porcaro says, “I have really dry skin and coconut oil has been the only product I’ve been using lately. It’s changed my skin’s complexion and now it doesn’t flake at all.”
Champagne Pop by Becca ($38.00)
Senior Bella Guerra says, “It’s a must in my makeup routine. If I forgot to put it on, something feels wrong the rest of the day.”
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle ($7)
Kate Scanlan, a senior, says, “This is the best drugstore product I have ever used. It covers up all my dark circles, blemishes, and highlights my face really well. It’s a great product for a great price.”

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder ($38)
Senior Maria Cacciatore says, “I like that it is a loose powder because I use it with a beauty blender so it makes it easier to pick up the product. It sets really well and keeps my makeup long lasting.”
Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray ($31)
Sophomore Greta Dieck says, “I love it because it seals makeup and makes it laster longer than it probably should.”
Kathryn Byers, senior, says, “It’s really lightweight and works well for me because I have sensitive skin. I’ve found Urban Decay’s setting spray is different because it makes my makeup stay all throughout the night, like if I have a game.”
Kat Von D Lipstick ($20)
Senior Claire Leto says, “It lasts very long and isn’t too hard to apply, and it comes in both dark & light colors that I love.”

Kate Somerville Acne Treatment ($26)
Senior Riley Rubio says, “I used to try a bunch of different products, but nothing has worked as well as Kate Somerville’s treatment. I can’t live without it. It reduces the size of the pimple and clears my skin overnight.”
Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Bronzing Powder ($29)
Sophomore Grace Buckhorn says, “This is my go-to Bronzer for shading and contouring. Its not patchy, completely smooth, and lasts all day long.”
Benefit They’re Real Mascara ($24)
Arts and Entertainment editor Sophia Bahr says, “Benefit They’re Real is my favorite because it lengthens, darkens and adds so much volume to your lashes. It’s around 28 dollars, but worth every penny spent.”
Freshman Grace Orama says, “A hack I’ve learned is that a good mascara is normally in the brush, rarely in the formula. To save money after the mascara runs out, I sanitize the brush and use it with a cheaper drugstore mascara.”
Anastasia’s Dipbrow Pomade ($18)
Senior Lisette Cruz says, “The Anastasia’s Dipbrow Pomade is like no other because of its ability to last all day and the smooth application makes it easy to create bold brows.”

Mac Pro Long Wear Concealer ($22)
Anne Marie Yatsula, a senior, says, “I’m not really into wearing a ton of makeup, but sometimes I get some troublesome spots and the concealer blends easily, but stays opaque and it last for ever-like through swim practice. I’d recommend it for anyone though, not just non-makeup wearers.”
