In one cup of coffee, there is 95 mg of caffeine.

Many people can’t survive the early mornings without a hot cup of delicious coffee; however, with the health dangers of too much caffeine causing diabetes and increasing stress hormones, there are many coffee alternatives that are just as delicious and energizing, but better for your body.

Senior, Audrey Dunn voices, “I love coffee, but I know that I really should not have a lot of it per day. This is why I would love to know some alternatives for that mid day sluggish feeling.”

These coffee alternatives include:

1. Green Tea

Although green tea contains less caffeine than a cup of coffee, it still has just enough to give you that jolt in the morning. Also, a bonus is the many heath benefits that green tea holds, including powerful antioxidants and potent disease fighters.

2. Wheatgrass Juice

A natural energizer, this beverage is full of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that are sure to get your day off to a good start. Gloria Gilbere, a doctor of natural health, explains, “Because of its easy digestibility and rapid assimilation, it’s a natural energy supplement, whether alone or added to a protein-type supplement drink.”

Junior, Erica Dierks claims, “At Xtreme Juice, I know they sell wheatgrass shots, and they taste horrible, but I’ve heard that the health benefits are worth it!”

3. Lemon Water

Although coffee gives you an instant boost of energy in the morning, many people find that by the afternoon, they are sluggish once the caffeine has worn off. To fix this problem, just some simple lemon water can stimulate your senses.

Freshman, Ellie Boos says, “I drink as much water as I can per day because I have found it keeps me alert.”

4. Pomegranate Juice

Pomegranate juice, full of antioxidants and energizers, is easily just as delicious as it is beneficial in the morning.

5. Hot Apple Cider

With the sweetness of the cider replacing the caffeine pick me up, hot apple cider is a great alternative to coffee. Plus, the warmness of the drink gives that similar warmth that coffee provides on a chilly morning.
