First All-School Mass reminds us of our talents

Friday, August 21, 2015 was the first all school mass of the 2015-2016 school year. Mr. Raimo introduced the mass and gave a opening speech about the new year and welcoming all the new students,“ To offer up our thanks, to offer up our prayers, and to pray for one another as a community.” The mass was held in honor of HS Instructional Technology Specialist Deborah Collins’ mother, Ann Mowry, who recently passed.

Father Bruce Craig SDB, Pastor of Mary Help of Christians Parish, introduced the parable of the talents, Matthew 25:14-30. Father opens up the homily with “The great love that God has given us” and he goes on to explain more about how talented we all are and the gifts God gave us individually. We are given specific talents before our birth and using them is our responsibility.  As students, we all have different talents from painting to writing or singing. Even though we have these talents and the ability to use them, sometimes we don’t out of fear. Father Bruce explained how some people are given the ability to sing, but they would still choose not to sing in front a large group of people.  Father preceded to bless all the students wishing them good luck for the upcoming school year. He blessed the adults and teachers in the room as well, praying to strengthen the abilities God gave them in order to teach.
