How To: Declutter your life to get ready for College
With the last few weeks of senior year coming to an end, it is very important to make sure that you are prepared for college. We all have our moms nagging us to clean our rooms and get organized. Well, now is the perfect time to finally listen and go through all our junk, because lets face it, we are NOT going to be able to bring everything with us to our dorms.
You may be wondering…. Where do I even start? Well, here are a few tips and ideas on how to get started decluttering your life.
This might take a while, especially considering all the t-shirts we get every year for clubs and sports at Academy, but go through your t-shirts. Most girls have way more than they actually need and or wear. Make piles of ones you frequently wear, sometimes wear, and never wear. Immediately get rid of the ones you never wear. Then go to the ones that you sometimes wear. Sort through that pile again and take the ones you chose from it and add them to the t shirts you frequently wear.
- Sort through your clothes by season. It is unrealistic to think that you are going to be wearing your heaviest winter coat on the first day of class. Think about the weather and what you will need. You can always switch out clothes on break or even have parents ship you a coat or two if needed before then.
- What don’t you have? Though it may seem silly, many of us lack the basic necessities of a complete college wardrobe. For example, make sure you have a raincoat, comfortable shoes to walk around in, etc..
- Shifting away from your wardrobe, look around your room. All of us want to have the cutest dorm room with a bunch of wall decorations. Find cute pictures that have been lying around of you and your friends. Make a collage or sting them together because they look super cute up on a wall and will help you feel at home when you are homesick.
- Make sure you get dorm stuff early. You don’t want to be that girl that is rushing to figure out what you want for your bedding and not have it come in on time. It will give you piece of mind knowing that you are prepared ahead of time and can then relax right before you leave. Because, lets face it, leaving home will be stressful enough!
- Lastly, go through all the random junk in your room. Because you won’t be taking all of this with you, its gonna be left behind for your parents to fend through. Make sure you keep what is important and store it away, getting rid of the rest.
If you do all of this, you are sure to be more prepared and less stressed by the time college rolls around. Good luck to all the seniors on their future endeavors in college.
