Different Ways Campus Ministry is Serving our School During the Pandemic

October 6, 2020

Campus ministry offers many opportunities for students at Academy. They have found new ways to give Academy students the chance to serve God and their communities even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Here are some different ways campus ministry is helping students grow their faith during this school year.

  1. X2Vol

X2Vol has been a great resource for Academy girls to submit their service hours and find other service opportunities. Under the “Find Opportunities” tab on the website, you can find school approved places to get your service hours. These are places like Feeding America, Metropolitan Ministries, Ronald McDonald House, and more.

Kim Wiley of Campus Ministry said, “This year the school is not allowed to go off campus for any service opportunities, so students are mostly expected to get their hours on their own. The Mother’s Association is offering ways to get service hours done with your parents, which is great because a lot of parents want to get involved too.”

If you find any service opportunities that have not been put on the X2Vol website yet, email them to Kim Wiley at [email protected].

  1. Peer Ministry

Peer ministers at Academy have been assigned to different advisories to help students grow their faith in creative and fun ways.

Olivia Book (‘23) said, “We have been able to partner up with an advisory and grow with those girls in our faith and create a comfortable atmosphere to share about our beliefs and provide a time for personal reflection. Additionally, I have been able to curate trivia questions for Rose Week and collect items for the prize bags.”

Being peer ministers has allowed these students to not only help others grow their faith, but also to become closer to God themselves.

Maggie Smith (23’) said, “Through peer ministry, I have been able to grow my faith with so many of my fellow classmates and I love being able to bond with them every Wednesday through our presentations.”

  1.   Rose Week

Rose Week is dedicated to celebrate and honor Blessed Marie Rose. During the week, the school is focusing on remembering Blessed Marie Rose and expressing our gratefulness to her for all she has done for Academy. Campus ministry has worked tirelessly to make this week perfect.

Adele Politz (‘23) said, “The peer ministers are working hard to make Rose Week the best it can possibly be this year. We have daily trivia questions, balloon arches, special prayer services, dress down day, and lots of cookies!”

Campus ministry spent the time leading up to Rose Week on Zoom calls with other Holy Names Schools, trying to find different ways to make this Rose Week as special as possible.

Wiley said, “We are actually the only Holy Names school having mass this week, all of the other schools are just having prayer services.” This week is very special to our school, and will be a fun and exciting way for Academy to honor Blessed Marie Rose.
