A preview to AHN Spirit Week 2023

Every year, Golden Girls host AHN’s spirit week. The week is dedicated to fun ways to dress down and express creative ways to approach the year’s themes. This year the themes are:

• Music Monday and anything but a backpack
• Rhyme without a Reason (duos) (Tuesday)
• Fashion Disaster (Wednesday)
• Dressing Day (Thursday)
• Soccer Moms vs. Grill Dads (Friday)

This year, spirit week is held from April 17 through April 21 and for anyone looking for any last-minute ideas, here is a list of ideas for each of the week’s themes.

Music Monday is a day to express one’s love for music and also the only day that wearing sweatpants are allowed. This day is pretty simple and wearing a t-shirt from a favorite band with some sweatpants is a perfect way to complete this theme. For example, wearing a sweatshirt from the band, The Rolling Stones, with a favorite pair of grey sweatpants. Music Monday is also anything but a backpack day! This means that instead of bringing a normal school backpack, find something else to hold all the necessary school supplies. Some ideas can be a hangar, a duffel bag, a pillowcase, a shopping cart, a baby carriage, a musical instrument case, or even one of those big electrical cars to zoom books around the school.

Rhyme without a Reason (duos) is the perfect day to dress up with a best friend! This day is dedicated to rhyming so dress up with a friend as a rhyming duo. Some Rhyme without a Reason ideas are: Jesus Christ and Ice Spice, FBI and Butterfly, Chick-fil-a and ballet, and Chad and Dad! Basically, try to find two things that rhyme and dress up as them!

On Fashion Disaster Day, pair mismatched patterns, colors, or clothes that do not go together at all. Or even, wear some hated favorite fashion trends! A few ideas for this wacky day include wearing zebra strips with tiger print, polka dots and plaid, cargo pants with a tutu on top, and to spice up the look, wear mismatched socks and shoes.

Dressing Day is a by-grade-spirit day! Seniors dress as Caesar salad dressing by wearing togas, Juniors as Ranch dressing with cowboy hats and boots, Sophomores as Thousand Island dressing with a tropical fit (Hawaiian shirt, shorts, etc.), and the Freshmen wear blue with Blue Cheese dressing.

Soccer Moms vs. Grill Dads is an opportunity to dress up as these hilarious stereotypes. Represent the Grill Dads with an apron and a spatula and the soccer moms with skinny jeans, and leggings, maybe even bring a bag with snacks to really sell the costume.
