The clock strikes 12:47 on a Friday afternoon, and the high schoolers at AHN rush down the stairs after hearing the bell ring. You may be wondering why, but this is no surprise to the average Academy girl- it’s “General Tso’s Chicken Day.” Tons of girls pack around the lunch line, gearing up to get their plate of warm, fluffy, white rice and savory, delicious General Tso’s chicken. Rowan Alexander (‘25) is no stranger to this rush, as she exclaims, “After getting our Friday smoothies, my friends and I race through the cafeteria doors to see who can get their meal first.”
One of the many positive parts of going to the Academy of the Holy Names is our school’s lunch. SAGE presents delicious food to the students every day, such as General Tso’s chicken, and there is a wide variety of meals offered each lunchtime. A few other fan favorites include chicken quesadillas, spaghetti and meatballs, and grilled cheese. Although those meals are only offered some days, students can always count on the salad bar or the popcorn chicken to eat if they prefer. Sara-Beth Grande (‘26) has learned to appreciate SAGE over the years. She states, “If I forget to pack a lunch, it is nice to know that SAGE will always have me covered with their delicious fries or salad bar.”

While getting their yummy lunch meals, the girls are greeted by the lovely SAGE workers. They are so helpful to the students at lunchtime, and they always offer a funny joke or beautiful smile when the girls purchase their food. Behind the scenes, the lunch workers at SAGE put in a lot of work to cook the amazing meals and bake the yummy treats that the students here love so much, so it is crucial that they are treated in a way that reflects how appreciated they are.

The ladies and gentlemen who work at SAGE are very excited to put festive treats together for Academy girls during this holiday season. Last February, the SAGE team made Valentine’s Day-themed cupcakes, which were a delicious addition to the average daily menu. On Halloween this year, they presented homemade rice crispy treats and spooky brownies. Natalie Marks (‘24) explains, “I love the yummy treats that SAGE makes for us, and on Halloween, I was delighted to see the festive treats in the cafeteria. I tried the brownie, and it was scrumptious.” By putting out fun treats, students are able to have a fun break during their day, which enhances their lunch experience.
