Extracurricular spotlight: Animals in Action club

Animals in Action is a new club at Academy, aimed at helping the animals in the Tampa Bay community. The club is run by co-presidents, Kate Wilary (’26) and Ainsley Kurrack (’26), as well as the moderator, Ms.Belush. Ultimately, the club combines a passion for animals with an ability to serve the community with fundraisers, school-wide events, and hands-on service activities. This past February and March, there was a drive for dog treats and other supplies, where the class that brought in the most would win a pizza party. A surplus of supplies was brought in from across grade levels, truly benefiting the animals in need. During midterms, service dogs were brought in, as they acted as a stress reliever and special guest for Academy students stressed with midterms. Throughout the year, the club members frequently volunteer after school and on the weekends. This service consists of dog walking, where girls go to facilities and walk different dogs, as well as care for them. Another service activity includes volunteering at the Humane Society, a shelter for all animals, where the girls will spend time with the animals, clean the shelter, and follow other directives given by the shelter’s faculty. Though it is a new club, the club has demonstrated its impact through the vast variety of events the club puts on for club members and students to enjoy.
