Judge Melissa Black and social media expert Natalie Zfat are two women who are notable in the Hillsborough County area. The pair visited Academy Girls to discuss the importance of safe social media use and legal precautions.
Judge Black attended Stetson University of College Law and has a goal to keep students safe in the eyes of social media and technology. “Publish wisely,” Judge Black said, emphasizing that every post has an impact. She delved into topics like cyberbullying, stalking, and harassment.
Natalie Zfat attended Harvard for her higher education teaching certificate, where her goal was to help students harness the power of social media, so they can land their dream jobs. Zfat, who views social media as more of psychology rather than technology, shared insights into how online interactions shape behavior. “30% of kids 10-18 have been cyberbullied, and only 10% of children tell their parents.” Said Zfat, highlighting the emotional effects of digital engagement.

“I thought this convocation taught me a lot, and I learned so much about the consequences of posting on social media,” said Tatum Gramata (’26).
Posting on social media can be used to create memories, or connect with friends and family. On the contrary, it can also be extremely dangerous due to the consequences of catfishing or cyberbullying.
Judge Black emphasizes the concern of social media within the law, and how to be mindful of what you post. “Anything you post on any social media can be used against you in a court of law” Black Said. Black encourages students to be vigilant with their digital footprint, explaining that even innocent posts can have unforeseen repercussions.
The visit from Judge Black and Natalie Zfat left the students with a deeper understanding of the powerful yet risky nature of social media. By sharing both the legal and practical side of this, the two speakers encouraged students to think critically about their online actions.
