On April 9, the Academy of the Holy Names will host the City of Stars, the 2025 high school visual arts expedition, at the Bailey Center for the Arts.

The overall theme is inspired by La La Land, which is set in Los Angeles—the city of stars. The film depicts LA as a vibrant area for creativity, filled with artists, actors, and filmmakers

This art fair highlights the incredible creations of students from Art 1, 2D Design, 3D Design, Drawing, and Ceramics classes. Students across different grades showcase their many talents in the AP art and design classes, unveiling the projects they have worked on throughout the year.

Eva Bertozzi ‘25 says, “I have eight pieces that I will be presenting. My materials are gouache on watercolor paper, and I experimented with a new material called flashe.”

Many Academy students showcase their artwork to parents, teachers, and fellow students.

Bertozzi adds, “My sustained investigation revolves around the patterns in and of the world. My pieces explore the layers of patterns seen in nature through my landscapes and the layers of human development and patterns in cities.”

This event allows students to express themselves creatively and helps them build confidence in sharing their work with a broader audience. By showcasing the girls’ talents, they inspire others to explore their creativity. Additionally, it provides a way for students to connect to the community and create lasting connections through their artwork.

Sarah Younes (’26),an art student being showcased in this festival, explains, “My investigation revolves around the fear of time. I began by sculpting representations of the physical effects of time, such as rotting fruit or a withered lung.”

Younes adds, “But as I explored, I shifted my pieces to display the feelings associated with the loss of time — anxiety, distortion, and exhaustion. My pieces became more abstracted throughout the year, having an overarching symbolism of the internal chaos that I perceive is connected to the fear of time.”

City of Stars will be a night filled with inspiration and artistic brilliance, truly reflecting AHN’s student artists’ passion and hard work. Don’t miss the chance to support and engage with the next generation of creative minds. Gallery talks with AP Art and Design Students begin at 4:00pm.
