Each year on September 11, the Academy of the Holy Names honors the memory of those who lost their lives in the tragic event of 9/11. As a school community, we pause for a moment of silence during morning announcements, one moment of silence and prayer for each time a plane struck the Twin Towers in New York City.

This tradition is a quiet but powerful way to remember the lives lost, the heroes who responded, and the impact the day had on our country. By taking time to reflect, we continue to honor their memory and recognize the importance of unity.

At the Academy of the Holy Names, we believe in the value of remembrance and the strength of these brave individuals. Our moment of silence each year is a reminder of the past and a commitment that we never forget.

Gold Star and Young Women for Freedom club members run the announcements the morning of the tragedy. Every time that these events took place they go on the intercom and make a remembrance for the ones we lost that day.

Gretchen Morey (‘27) said, “During my announcement I talked about the importance of remembering 9/11, led a prayer honoring those who were a part of it, and discussed the importance of remembering those who lost their lives and their loved ones.”

It’s very important for AHN girls to honor our nation and pay respects to those who sacrificed themselves to keep people safe.

As the years go by, it becomes even more important to understand the significance of this day. By honoring the heroes of 9/11, we also inspire one another to lead with compassion, stand together in reflection, and prayer.
