This fall season, Academy girls are heading to college to visit their friends and family for college football games. Whether it’s in-state or out-of-state, these girls are travelling for memories and a good time.

Heidi Skinner (‘26) goes to visit her cousin, Brady LaMar, at the University of Oklahoma. Skinner said, “We like to fly, but last time I went, there was a crying baby on the plane, and it was a long flight, which made it a bad start to the trip.”

Skinner said her favorite part of visiting is going to the games, watching them win, and screaming “Boomer Sooner!”, Oklahoma’s chant.

“When we visit, we go to his favorite restaurant, Redrock Canyon Grill, and hang out with his fraternity brothers in his apartment,” said Skinner.

Three hours away from Skinner, Caroline Bertozzi (‘27) flies to visit her sister Eva Bertozzi (A’25) at Southern Methodist University. “It’s her first year away, and it’s always good to see her all the time because I miss her,” said Bertozzi.

Continuing, Bertozzi says, “When my family and I visit her, we go boulevarding (tailgating) and go to football games. We also go to a restaurant called Hudson House, and it’s so good.”

A couple of hours away from Tampa, Olivia Vargas (A’25) gets visits from Senior Ali Ibanez (‘26) and her best friend, Peyton Pickett (A’25) from the University of Central Florida in Orlando. Ibanez and Pickett drove up to Orlando, and on the drive there, they talked about recent happenings and listened to really good music.

Ibanez said, “We used to hang out a lot, and Olivia just rushed, and she really wanted Peyton and me to meet her new friends.”

Ibanez said her favorite thing to do at UCF was going to the game day, going to some of the fraternity parties, and going to tailgates. “They play “American Pie” by Don McLean, and all the frat guys mosh when they play the song, and it’s really fun.”

Up in Tally, Gretchen Morey (‘27) drives to visit her older sister, Lucy Morey (A’24), at Florida State University. Morey says, “ We like to go to the games and tailgate. It’s honestly the best part.” Morey loves to participate in the war chant before and during the games with her sister and says it makes the best memories.

Whether you’re going to an in-state or out-of-state football game, these girls can find fun wherever they go.
