Volunteering During a Pandemic

November 16, 2020

Dear Achona,

How do I do service work in the time of corona?

Dear Anonymous,

I, too, realize that volunteering during a pandemic can pose its challenges and cause anxiety as students are still expected to obtain 25 service hours this year. However, Campus Ministry has posted various volunteering opportunities on x2volv. Some of those include volunteering with Feeding America, the Village Community Food Pantry, Metropolitan Ministries, and even tutoring virtually. I, for one, can attest to the fact that the Village Community Food Pantry has adhered to COVID-19 guidelines which has thus created a safe environment for the volunteers as I have assisted there since the pandemic began. Everyone is outside and does not have direct contact with those picking up their groceries. In addition, as the Holidays begin to near, many volunteering places are in extra need of help. As a result, I recommend that you check out the opportunities on x2volv as there are some that involve you to be in-person but also others that do not as to accommodate all situations.

Let’s give back this holiday season.
