As of November 22, 2024, the newly released “Wicked” movie has been shown in movie theaters across the country. The movie is based off of the “Wicked” Broadway musical and will consist of two parts since the musical is lengthy. The second part of the “Wicked” movie will be playing in theaters by November 21, 2025.

Although only being shown in theaters as of recently, “Wicked” is already expected to be one of the most successful blockbuster movies of the year. After only being shown in theaters for five days, the movie profits were already up to $117.5 million.

The storyline of the movie is about a young woman, Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) who has trouble adjusting to Shiz University because of her green skin. Although she is having trouble adjusting, she continues attending in hopes that the Wonderful Wizard of Oz will be powerful enough to change her skin color. Along the way, she surprisingly develops a friendship with a more popular student, Glinda (Ariana Grande). When the two take a journey to see the Wizard of Oz, however, a series of chaotic events occur.

Theater and musical fans have already expressed their approval over “Wicked,” many positively recalling their experience listening to the movie’s soundtrack and watching it with a friend. Over their Thanksgiving break, many Academy students also took the time to see “Wicked” in the theaters, and similarly had an enjoyable time seeing the movie.

Freshman Sophia Wall’s favorite part about “Wicked” was watching it in the theaters with a friend. Wall said, “My favorite part of seeing the Wicked movie was sharing the experience with a friend. My friend, Charlie, and I are huge theater nerds and seeing “Wicked” on the big screen together was super fun. We got together to laugh and cry at one of our favorite musicals.”

Sophomore Amelia Lontchar’s favorite part of the movie was the plot in relation to the musical. Lontchar said, “The night was incredible and “Wicked” was genuinely one of the best movies I’d seen in a while. The cast was fantastic and the music was so good. I loved how they payed homage to the original cast of the Broadway show too. I will definitely be back in the theater when part two comes out in 2025.”

Much approval has been shown for the newly released “Wicked” movie in Academy and beyond, with anticipation further building for the release of Part II for the “Wicked” movie on November 21, 2025.
