Female influencers and entrepreneurs have encompassed much of the success made in 2024, from innovative businesses growing into large empires and large arenas being sold out of tickets to thousands of adoring fans. In reviewing the successes of 2024, Co Editor-in-Chief Nicole Bianchi pays special attention to four select women artists/entrepreneurs who have influenced adolescents around the world to be innovative and to push past limitations and boundaries set on what women are able to accomplish.
Hailey Bieber (Rhode skin):
Since marrying the Canadian-born singer Justin Bieber, Hailey Bieber has over the years battled with much hateful and spiteful comments from many social media users, often being centered around her marriage. Bieber has even taken to her platform to combat such cruelty, stating how she doesn’t “support or condone hateful, mean or nasty comments” after receiving waves of toxic comments from others. “Doing that is not supporting me … if you are participating in that you are part of a culture that I want no part of.” However, Bieber didn’t waver from such vulgar and demeaning comments; instead, she continued to flourish. Bieber launched her skincare company “Rhode skin” during the summer of 2022, where her first “Peptide Lip Treatments offer[ed] sold out within three days” of being on the market.

Selena Gomez (Rare Beauty):
Selena Gomez has been a part of the entertainment world for much of her life, getting a start “as young as nine years old” when she had become a part of Barney & Friends and later taking her career further with her role as Alex Russo on “Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place.” Selena has continued to push herself to continually grow her career to different possibilities, becoming “an Emmy- and Grammy-nominated star.” She further broadened her horizons as she founded “Rare Beauty” in 2019, her first makeup company. Gomez has made her mission to bring inclusivity and to “Love Your Rare.” She remarked how she wants “people to understand that it’s not always about the makeup – it’s about who we are, and celebrating that.” Another mission has also been in “rais[ing] $100 million to support youth mental health.”

Taylor Swift (The Eras Tour):
The renowned singer had attracted the attention of many adoring fans throughout the past year. In 2024, Taylor Swift released dates for her Eras Tour, with the popularized festival becoming “the highest grossing tour ever”. The pop star, through her tour, generated a gross of over “$2 billion”, which was “twice as much as any other tour in history.” Before the influential artist rose to fame, she had began her career at the age of “16”, releasing her first album in 2006. Since then, her influence has transcended into offereing a helping hand to several different organizations, including one of her recent donations being “$100K to GoFundMe for Chiefs Parade Shooting Victim’s Family.”
Senior Sara Klimek (’25) spoke on the influence Taylor Swift has had on her, detailing how “she is a really successful business person and strategized her tour really well, and she donates a lot to charity. I think she has shown me that even if you have a lot [of money], it’s still good to give to others who need it more.”

Tate McRae:
Tate McRae had begun her work towards her dream since she was as young as 6 years old, taking dance lessons “and focusing on her moves over her vocals.” She went on to join the cast of So You Think You Can Dance. McRae would later sign a “recording contract with RCA Records in 2019.” She would land her single “You Broke Me First” on the “Billboard Hot 100”, with the song ranking at “No. 17” for more than “38 weeks”. Other hit songs from the popular artist include “Exes,” an inspiration drawn from “Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera that ranked “No. 34 on the Hot 100”, and “It’s OK I’m OK” which featured a unique style of “street dancing” within the music video. Recently, the artist has released her latest single “Sports Car”, ranking “No. 21” on the Hot 100. McRae collaborated with several famous artists, including Grant Boutin, Ryan Tedder, and Julia Michaels.
Senior Ava Fernandez (’25) spoke on her interest in Tate McRae, saying “I just think she’s influential because she started doing dance, and then she transitioned to music. I think it’s just crazy how she is good at both different things.”
