Three Smoothies That Will Excite Your Morning

Smoothies are pretty great, but ones with health benefits are even better. There are a ton of different recipies out in the world on the best smoothies that can help with metabolism, energy, and many more.

Rather than waiting for Smoothie Friday and having to pay $4 dollars for a smoothie, make your own at home whenever you want! Here are a few that Academy found:

PROTEIN: Vegan Mixed Berry & Chia Protein Shake (serves 1)

If you are vegan or aspire to be, this smoothie is just for you! With some of its ingredients being silken tofu and

chia seeds, one cup of this smoothie will give you the protein source and protein booster for the day.

Senior, Liz Benjamin states, “It also makes me feel so much better and more energized. For about a month it was kind of challenging but once I found the vegan alternatives I liked it actually became pretty easy.“

  • Ingredients:
    • ¾ almond milk
    • ⅓ silken tofu (protein source)
    • ½ cup frozen mixed berries
    • 1 tablespoon chia seeds (protein booster)
    • 1 tablespoon agave
  • Directions:
    • Pour in almond milk into blender.
    • Carefully pour in the rest of the ingredients
    • Turn blender on high for a minute or until liquid is smooth
    • **Top with extra chia seeds before serving
    • Enjoy! 🙂

 

ANTIOXIDANTS: Antioxidant Blast Green Smoothie Recipe with Pomegranate (serves 1)

Antioxidants are nutrients such as vitamin E and C. They help prevent or stop cell damage caused by oxidants, free radicals that you find in the environment. Do your body a favor and get a blast of antioxidants with this smoothie.

  • Ingredients:
    • ½ cup pomegranate arils
    • 1 cup frozen blueberries
    • 1 banana, peeled
    • ½ cup frozen raspberries
    • 1 tablespoon cacao powder
    • 3 cups baby spinach
    • 8 ounces unsweetened almond milk
  • Directions:
    • Pour in almond milk into blender.
    • Carefully pour in the rest of the ingredients
    • Turn blender on high for a minute or until liquid is smooth
    • Enjoy! 🙂

*Tip: I recommend drinking half right away and the other half 30 minutes later. (if it is too much, store leftovers in a sealed container for up to 24 hours)

 

POST WORKOUT: Mango-Go-Go (serves 1)

Orange fruits and veggies have many nutrients that repair cell damage that could occur during workouts. This mango smoothie is great for after workout snacks. With its tasty mango flavor, this smoothie will become a treat after your workout.

  • Ingredients:
    • 2 cups spinach
    • 1 cup frozen mango
    • ½ cup baby carrots
    • ½ cup coconut water
    • ¼ cup orange juice
    • 2 satsuma or mandarin oranges, peeled
    • ½ cup plain yogurt
  • Directions:
    • Pour in coconut water and orange juice into blender.
    • Carefully pour in the rest of the ingredients
    • Turn blender on high for a minute or until liquid is smooth
