What to know going into college football season

On September 1, 2024, the first game of the college football season began. Fans are excited to see what this year has in store. In 2023, the Michigan Wolverines beat the Washington Huskies in the college national championship however, this year the favorite to win the championship is the Georgia Bulldogs. With that preface, here is all the information to prepare for the 2024 season.

 “I love the college football season, both my parents went to the University of Florida and I can’t wait to see how they do this season,” said Mikayla Valdes (’26).

Notable Divisions:

SEC, the Southern Eastern Conference, includes all schools located in the southeast region of the United States.

Notable teams include; Alabama, Georgia, Missouri, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas, Florida

Big 10, this conference is called the Big 10 because for decades these schools were the most prominent, hence why they’re considered “Big”.

Notable teams include; Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, USC, Washington, Michigan,

ACC, the Atlantic Coast Conference includes most schools on or near the Atlantic Coast.

Notable teams include; Miami, UNC, SMU, Clemson, Wake Forest, Florida State

Projections for the season: The Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC division are currently 2-0, and projected to keep that up. Other teams considered front runners for their divisions are Ohio State, Texas, Tennessee, Ole Miss, USC, Penn State, and Alabama. 

Rivalries: One of the most significant parts of this season is the overly competitive rivalries. Those teams include; UF v. FSU, Army v. Navy, Alabama v. Auburn, Michigan v. Ohio State, and Oklahoma v. Texas

 “I’m so excited to go visit my sister at Florida State and see the Seminoles crush California,” said Gretchen Morey (’27).

These college football teams and fans have been preparing all year for their kickoff. With new recruits, seasoned stars, and high-stakes matchups on the horizon, the season promises to deliver unforgettable moments and fierce competition.
