January 20, 2025, was packed with significance regarding history and sports. People gathered from the white house to football stadiums to honor tradition, reflect on their lives, and cheer on their favorite teams.
The Inauguration of President Donald Trump has made a pivotal moment in American politics as the 47th president was sworn into office. The ceremony, held inside the U.S. Capitol was a historic event that emphasized themes of unity and resilience.
Trump,in his inaugural address, said, “In America, the impossible is what we do best.”
Throughout his inaugural address, Trump confirmed his plans for the nation. Millions watched from home as a new chapter in the country’s leadership began.
Ainsley Kurrack (‘26) said, “We stayed a block from the White House and even got to see Trump and Melania walk to church on Sunday from our hotel window. It was pretty cool to see all of the action up close even though they moved the actual ceremony inside the Capitol.”
January 20 also celebrates Martin Luther King Day, the holiday commemorating the civil rights leader’s legacy. Across the nation, many communities organized parades and service projects to highlight King’s message of equality and justice.
The “Dream Big” event in St. Petersburg included a faith service, followed by a parade.
With the city’s excitement, the mayor points out his thoughts. “A spectacular route that will culminate at Tropicana Field. The parade will feature floats, marching bands, cultural performances, and a vibrant show of unity and diversity, ” said St. Petersburg Mayor Ken Welch.

“I felt pretty confident about Ohio State’s chances of winning against Notre Dame, as long as Ohio State’s defense was able to keep Notre Dame’s offense from extended possessions; since ND is primarily a rushing team led by their QB Riley Leonard, I was a little apprehensive after ND’s first drive took up over 9 minutes of the first quarter. Once Ohio State’s offense was able to get the ball, they started rolling and could score quickly,” said Maria Buoni, Theology Teacher.
Sports fans were treated to a suspenseful college football matchup as Notre Dame faced Ohio State in one of the season’s most anticipated games. The showdown lived up to the hype, with Kicker Jaden Fielding’s field goal resulting in Ohio carrying the lead.
Fans from both teams filled the stadium, bringing an extra layer of excitement to an already action-packed day. Ohio winning this game “gave them their first title since 2014, in its ninth championship in program history.”
