When Covid hit in 2020, people realized they did not have to go to the theatres to watch movies, they could watch at home. With the closing of movie theaters nationwide and the rise of streaming services, people forgot about the magic of watching movies on the big screen. Now that the theaters are opening back, here is a guide to all the movies coming out this fall season.
Last November, “Wicked” hit the big screen and made 686 million dollars at the box office worldwide. This September, “Hamilton” was released in theaters for two weeks and like “Wicked”, drew lovers of musicals into the movies.
November 21, “Wicked: For Good” comes out in theaters globally with predictions to outperform the original release, and a bring a whole new demographic to return to the movies alongside “Hamilton”.
“I saw Wicked last year and am so excited for the new one to come out, especially cause I love the song “For Good”,” said Maya Mitchell (’26).
On October 24, “Regretting You”, a movie based off of Colleen Hoover’s novel is perfect for all romance movie lovers. Like “It Ends with Us” and “Anyone but You” this movie is for people who love drama and tears, but also laughter and romance. This movie is set to be about a complicated family dynamic, the loss of an aunt and father, affairs, teenage romance, and coming of age for both a mother and daughter. This movie is sure to make you cry but also laugh and warm hearts.
“I loved “It Ends with Us” and am so excited to watch another movie based off of a Colleen Hoover book,” said Dylana Head (’26).
Another movie set to release October 24 is “Springsteen: Deliver me from Nowhere”, a Bruce Springsteen biopic starring Jeremy Allen White. Whether Springsteen is a favorite, or White is someone you want to see on the big screen, this is sure to be for lovers of all genres. It follows the journey of the creation of the album “Nebraska”, with flashbacks to Springsteen’s childhood and how he got to where he was. This movie not only gives light to the rockstar he was, but the behind the scenes of his life and what people didn’t know about him. This is one meant to be seen in the theaters due to the cinematography and style.
“Bruce Springsteen and Jeremy Allen White are two of my favorite people and I cannot wait to see Jeremy play Springsteen and sing his songs,” said Mia Debourg (’26).
For the sci-fi and action people Disney is releasing a new movie, “Tron: Ares”. It comes out October 10 and follows an AI program called Ares that is released in the real world. This movie shows humans first interactions with AI, and is a sequel to the 2010 movie “Tron: Legacy”. This should be a perfect fit for fans of futuristic and action style movies.
“My brother and I are so excited to watch this new movie especially because the trailer looks just like the Disney ride,” said Gaby Cossi (’26).
Overall, the movies are a vital part of American culture and something that should be brought back to the weekly agenda of people. Watching a movie at home is a completely different experience than at the movies. At the theaters, getting candy, a slushy, popcorn, and getting to watch the trailers and see what’s coming out next.
