Untitled Watercolor

February 17, 2021

This piece was submitted by Emory Peterson (’22).

She said, “This piece was created using watercolor, which is a new medium I’ve been experimenting with. This is the first watercolor painting that I’ve ever been brave enough to create, which was recently painted for my portfolio class. Rather than delving into all my creative process and reflection details, I’ll briefly review some inspiration that aided me in my journey to creating the theme under which this piece resides. I’ve always been fascinated with the physical beauty of other countries like architecture and landscapes, but I’ve always wanted to learn more about the significance of certain aspects of other countries’ cultures. I took advantage of my previous knowledge of mythology relating to these cultures and began to expand upon it. I found that I didn’t know as much as I thought I did, and I took this opportunity to create a theme for this project as well as future projects around the subject of different cultures’ unfamiliar lore. I don’t want to give too much away regarding my future projects, but I am thrilled to continue experimenting with watercolor and expanding my knowledge about new mythology.”
