Congratulations were in order on September 13 for senior Meagan Gonzalez and Karen Cornett on their selection as semi-finalists by the 2013 National Merit Scholars Corporation (NSMC).
Gonzalez and Cornett scored within the top 1% of juniors who took the qualifying exam (PSAT/NMQT) in October 2011. This selection qualifies them to become candidates for Finalist selection based on their “academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities and honors and awards received.” In addition, candidates must score significantly well on their SATs, received high recommendations from their schools and write an essay. Out of 16,000 Semifinalists, “15,000 are expecgted to advance to the Finalist level and in February will be notified of their designation.”
Finalist become eligible for one of 2500 National Merit $2500 scholarships, as well as corporate-sponsored and college-sponsored Merit Scholarships.
Megan Gonzalez said, “I am so honored to have been recognized as a National Merit Semi-Finalist…I am grateful for this wonderful opportunity!”
