One of Academy’s very own graduates, Jessica Hemmings ’94, was the featured artist in this year’s Visiting Artist event on Thursday evening, February 21. Academy faculty, students, friends, and family were all invited to this event, which included a reception at 6:00 and a presentation at 6:30 in the Media Center.
Mrs. Sharon West, Chair of the Arts Department, shared her enthusiasm for the chance to have Hemmings on campus again. “Jess is a very accomplished woman whose education and career spans many disciplines, interests, and countries. She is an excellent advertisement for marrying diverse elements and weaving them together to fashion a professional life that is more than satisfactory.”
Hemmings has written a variety of articles and exhibition reviews revolving around textiles. She is currently working in Dublin as the Professor of Visual Culture and Head of the Faculty of Visual Culture at the National College of Art and Design. Her presentation interested a wide variety of people, with elements of both art and science in her work.
