Mini Course Week 2014 welcomes North Carolina mission trip
A big part of the Academy is service, which makes mini course week everyone’s favorite week of the year! With the large amount of girls that applied this year for a mission trip, they had to add another one: Black Mountain, North Carolina. This year’s trip will be led by Admission Directors Mrs. Pam Doherty and Mrs. Doreen Zelen.
Doherty searched for a place with lodging and Academy alumn in the area that could be a possible help to the trip.
“After thinking of where we could serve and narrowing down the options, North Carolina was the all around perfect fit and I couldn’t be more excited!”
The girls are going to be staying in the YMCA cabins and will be partnering up with Manna Food Bank ; along with working with Saint Margaret Mary Parish. There will be other activities added pending to the weather and many group bonding activities and spiritual preparations along the way.
The trip is unique in that the leaders are all from the junior class. The girls are currently in the process of thinking of ways to help the people in the area. Some possibilities are collecting old sweatshirts and distributing them to local homeless shelters.
Since this is a brand new trip, there are still last minute ideas coming together but the girls could not be more excited for their week of service!
Junior Olivia Brink says, “I love serving others and I’m so ready to spend a week with my friends in North Carolina helping as many people possible. It’s going to be unforgettable.”
