The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the daily lives of millions of people across the globe. From schools to supermarkets to parks, many public areas have been closed or readjusted to take the preventative measures to reduce the spread of the virus. Images of virus testing centers, gas prices, empty food shelves and parking lots will stain the memory of the early months of 2020 for the people of Tampa. The stay-at-home order issued for the state of Florida has further created a quiet town out of the busy city of Tampa. Below are a series of photographs taken by senior staff writer, Casey Martin, featuring glimpses of her own city, Tampa, as it is impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gas prices across the country are at the lowest since 2016 and they continue to drop as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to restrict transportation and travel. According to USA today, the national average price for gas is $2.15, which is about 50 cents cheaper than the average last year. These prices have dropped due to oil price disagreements between Saudi Arabia and Russia and fears from the COVID-19 pandemic. As of today, nineteen states have gas price averages less than $2.
