Abortion is a Spiritual Issue

These students went to the cathedral for the beautiful pro-life Mass.
On January 22, 2021, the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, Academy students went to the Diocesan Mass for Life. Due to Covid-19 and safety concerns, the annual March for Life in Washington, DC became virtual, on January 29. As the diocese knows that young people want to actively support life, they put together a Mass where a few students from each Catholic school could safely participate. The Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle is beautiful and spacious, so each of the students of the six schools present were socially distanced.
One thing that Bishop Parkes said in his homily was that there are other social justice issues that are prominent in politics and the news. We are well aware of that and are working on them. However, before we can fix those issues completely, we have to give everyone the right to life in the beginning. It is so true, because I could not claim any other rights if my mother did not first give me a chance at life.
One thing I always say is that, at the end of the day, the whole point of the pro-life movement is love, to love both the unborn and the women. To compassionately love the post-abortive and everyone affected by the abortion. To help them find healing. To love them.

Not a single serious pro-lifer would be pro-life if this wasn’t true.
Academy students have also done other activities to promote life. Junior Grace Odmark went to the St. Augustine March for Life with her church, St. Timothy, on January 16.
“I went with my parish to the Florida March for Life in St. Augustine, where we got to celebrate a Mass where we prayed for life. The Mass was followed by a rally with speakers talking about their various experiences with the abortion industry, and they shared why they are pro-life. It was very different from the national March for Life in D.C. but it was still very inspiring to be surrounded by like-minded people standing up for the most vulnerable in our society,” said Odmark.
One thing the entire pro-life club has been doing is praying for the unborn and their mothers. Abortion is a spiritual battle, and we know that prayer is powerful, so please join us in prayer.
“In his 1978 Urbi et Orbi Christmas message, Saint John Paul II reminded the world, ‘For God and before God, the human being is always unique and unrepeatable, somebody thought of and chosen from eternity, someone called and identified by his own name.’ I pray for the grace to see all people through God’s eyes, as unique and unrepeatable, irreplaceable and precious. Only when we learn to see others through the lens of their inherent dignity will we be able to truly love one another,” said religion and math teacher Megan Dubee.
Go visit Jesus in the Eucharist. We have a beautiful school chapel where He is fully present in the tabernacle. He is waiting for you to come open your heart to Him, and talking to Him about respecting life is a great place to start.
