AHN tennis team maintains early success

Academy’s tennis team continues to dominate on the courts.  The girls have defeated schools, such as Shorecrest Prep and Tampa Prep. Matches against Berkeley and Wiregrass Ranch turned out to be closer and evenly-matched, with winning scores of 4-3.

Girls seeded as No. 5-10 on the team also had an opportunity to play a non-starter match against Berkeley’s JV team. The loss remains as the only defeat the Jaguars have endured.

With only five girls returning from the previous season, the Academy tennis team welcomed new talent during tryouts at the HCC Tennis Complex on January 17-19.

Over the next two weeks during practices, the girls worked hard while sharpening and mastering both basic and advanced skills. The girls also played each other in challenge matches in order to form the roster rankings.

Monday, February 6, served as the team’s first match of the season against Tampa Catholic. The top five players dominated in their singles matches, each winning 8-0 in 8-game pro-sets. Unfortunately, a storm came through forcing the cancellation of the two doubles matches.
