After almost two weeks of tryouts, 13 girls have been chosen for varsity tennis this year. A record number of 17 players tried out this season. The competition was fierce and came down to single-elimination challenge matches for securing a position on the team.
This year’s team is surprisingly young, with only three upperclassmen. As the only senior player, Amanda Schifino serves as the team’s captain.
The tennis team’s first match of the season was on Tuesday, February 5, at 4:00 on HCC’s tennis courts against Berkeley. The match featured the “nonstarters” who hold positions 6-12 on the team. Spirits were high after Academy girls won their matches.
The team takes on Tampa Catholic on Thursday, February 7.
