The Jaguarettes dance team ended their 2012-2013 season with a bang at the MA Dance Southeast Regional Championship. The competition took place at Seminole High School in Sanford, Florida on Saturday, March 9.

Countless hours of practice and consistent dedication of perfecting routines paid off. The squad captured three major awards: the Super Sweepstakes Trophy, Choreography Plaque, and High Point Awards for both Jazz and Pom.

The Jaguarettes achieved a superior rating of 90 or above by every judge on all three of their group numbers: Jazz, Hip Hop, and Pom. With these high-ranking scores, the team won the Super Sweepstakes Trophy.

The judges recognized the team’s Jazz and Hip Hop performances with a Choreography Plaque, which was based on the criteria of creativity, innovation, and audience appeal.

Their Jazz and Pom routines finished as the highest scoring performance in each of their respective dance category among private schools, which earned the High Point Awards for the squad.

The dance team not only competed in group performances, but freshman Sofia Curry also entered and executed a beautiful solo in the underclassmen category.

Senior Jaguarette Jane Lazzara is proud of her fellow teammates. “It was a great way to end the season and my high school career with such a strong finish at this competition.”

The Jaguarettes, coached by Ms. Steff Zummo, faced local high school dance team rivals, including Tampa Catholic, Plant, Hillsborough, King, Chamberlain, and St. Petersburg High School. Other teams from all over Florida also traveled to participate in the competition.
