Camille Opp Makes Verbal Commitment to Tulane for Volleyball
On September 7, 2015 Academy’s outside-hitter, Camille Opp, officially committed to play volleyball at Tulane University, a division one school. Opp is regarded as one of the best outside hitters in Hillsborough county and she leads her team in kills. She announced her commitment via Twitter and Instagram.
Opp was drawn to Tulane because of “the sense of community at the school.” “I also really liked the town of New Orleans because there is a lot to do,” Opp adds. Opp insists that “Tulane is the perfect size for her because it is a decent-sized division one school, but it is not huge.” One of her favorite things about the team is how “it is like one big family.” According to Opp, the family extends to everyone participating in Tulane athletics. “All the athletes come to each other’s games to cheer each other on,” says Opp.
Making the decision of where to play volleyball was an incredibly difficult decision for Opp, and it took a lot of thinking and praying on her part. After she received the offer, she was given only a week to decide if she wanted to commit there or not. Opp said, “I talked with my family a lot about it, and I also prayed often in hopes of making the decision easier.” “The final factor in making my decision was when I visited the school and I felt right at home,” Opp reports.
Opp advises younger athletes who are looking to play in college to “start trying to contact coaches early and to maintain that contact for as long as possible.”
Although Opp is thrilled about playing for Tulane, for right now she is concentrating on her final two years of high school volleyball. Her goal for this season is “to make it further than last year (an appearance in the final four) and win states.”
