Defend the Den: Academy girls get involved in the Jesuit TC rivalry
It’s that time of year again. The biggest game of the season for the Jesuit Tigers football team, as well as the Tampa Catholic Crusaders. Both teams spend their whole season preparing to face one another for the showdown of the year. Jesuit has beaten TC for the past 15 years in a row. In fact, TC has only won twice since the year 1990. This year the Tigers are going into the game undefeated (9-0), while their rivals, the Crusaders, are coming to the contest with one loss (8-1). The game is this Friday, November 6 at 7:30 pm at Alumni Field.
As the sister school of Jesuit high, we try and get involved and help support and cheer on the tigers. This Friday a big group of senior girls, coordinated by Avery Dierks and myself, are meeting in the parking lot before the game to paint up and show support for our Jesuit brothers. Senior Avery Dierks says “ I can’t believe that this our last Jesuit TC game as a high schooler!” Throughout the years, Academy has always been supportive of the Tigers. They have joined Blue Tide throughout the years to help cheer on the Tigers to fifteen years of victory. Senior Maddie Matesich has been attending the Jesuit TC games for the last 15 years, “I’m so excited for this game and hope to cheer the Tigers on to another victory #sweet16!”
There is a lot going into this game tonight. The Academy girls hope to cheer on the Tigers to another victory this year. Senior Jayne McLaughlin has never been to a Jesuit TC game in her high school career, “I’m so nervous for this game and very excited to cheer my boyfriend Christian”. Anxiety is at an all time high, and hopefully the Tigers are ready to bring it all to the table, and earn yet another victory in their 15 year domination over Tampa Catholic. Go Tigers.
