Academy Winter Sports Run Down

Academy’s winter sports teams have had competitive and successful seasons. The varsity basketball team has won 10 games and lost 8. The varsity soccer team has also won 10 games and lost 1. The first lacrosse game is set for February 19, 2020, at 6:30 in Sarasota against Cardinal Mooney, with the first home game being February 20, 2020, at 6:00 p.m.
“For lacrosse we want to go to districts because we went last year. [The team’s goal is] to incorporate new rules because we are having a few rule changes this season, and we want to work on teamwork and getting to know how we each play and getting to use our different skills when we are playing.” said Mikayla Croissant (‘22).

The Junior Varsity and Varsity basketball are competing against Clearwater Central Catholic at 7:00 p.m on January 15, 2020. There is a varsity game at Calvary Christian High School on Friday, January 17, 2020. The Junior Varsity game is at Keswick Christian School on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at 6:00 p.m and varsity at 7:30 p.m. The basketball regional final is on February 21, 2020, at Academy.

Cindy Cejas (‘23) said, “Normally for the team of course going to districts, get better at your game, teamwork, and strategy. We want to get to the point where we shouldn’t depend on other people to help us, we should grow ourselves and in sports and people look up to us when we play.”
The Varsity soccer team competed against Calvary Christian and won 3-0. There is a game against St. Petersburg High School on Friday, January 17, 2020, at Academy. The soccer district quarterfinal game is at Academy on Friday, January 31, 2020, and the following Tuesday and Thursday for two away district games. The region final on February 18,2020, at 7:00p.m. it is a home game.
