AHN’s View on UF Gators vs FSU Seminoles

College Football season started on August 23, 2025.

With 136 teams from various colleges across the country, each year this competition excites fans, both non-college students and college fans alike. At the Academy, this is no different.

Girls become invested in the tournament in many ways, from having watch parties to tracking scores to see which team’s winning. Students’ enthusiasm is contagious, with even celebrating the kickoff by designating a day to wear their college teams’ merchandise. A majority of girls are fans of the Florida Gators and the Florida State Seminoles.

The rivalry between the two fills hallways and classrooms with sounds of friendly competition and excitement. When the season begins, friends who support opposing teams often playfully tease each other, celebrating each touchdown they score and predicting outcomes.

Gretchen Morey (‘27) says that “Academy girls are most passionate about the Gators and Noles because, being from Tampa, most of your parents went there, and therefore you want to go and support their team.” Moreover, she said that this creates a sense of community, which gives students a sense of belonging, even if they’re not attending the respective college in the future.

UF Gators

Also known as UF, they are part of the Southeastern Conference. They have had three National Championships, and they’re known for their iconic “gator chomp” cheer. A good amount of Academy girls cheer on the blue and orange team by engaging in lively discussions with friends and posting moments on social media. Some of them may even obtain tickets to attend game days.

Yas Luzod (‘26) said “I am a big fan of UF, ever since I was in middle school I have always liked UF for some reason and even more now that my brother is going there.”

FSU Seminoles

On the other hand, FSU is part of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Parallel to the Gators, they have won three National Championships and they are known for their pre-game War Chant. Many Academy girls enjoy the creativity and spirit of FSU fans, especially the unique outfits and themed events that take place during gamedays. This energy often takes over AHN’s hallways, creating an enjoyable atmosphere even for those who aren’t football fans.

Morey (‘27) also said “ I love the fun of the rivalries and game days, regardless of which team they’re playing. Go Noles!”

No matter which team, the community constructed by the sport is unbeatable. Filled with passion, friendly competition, and traditions, each year Academy girls prove that college football is one of the most memorable moments of the school year.

Eden Smith (‘28) says “I find college sports entertaining because they are more dramatic than the NFL. I mean, these people are fighting for their careers, so the game is very intense.”
