Academy Senior Maddie Fox, has committed to Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina for her sport, golf.
Fox first contacted the coach through some family connections. The coach reviewed her golf profile, and contacted her wanting to call to learn more about her. Fox agreed to call, and the call went well. From there, she and her parents scheduled a visit to the campus, and she loved it. She thought long and hard about all of her options, and she saw herself at Presbyterian. From there, everything worked out the way she wanted. She got an offer from the coach to play, and a couple weeks later, she verbally committed to play golf at Presbyterian College.
Fox has been a golfer at Academy for the past three years. She started out like any other girl on the golf team, a freshman hoping to make the team. Little did she know, she’d be a golf commit to Presbyterian College.
She started playing golf later than most. She started during Covid when a junior program opened at her home golf course. During this time, she was doing virtual school, so she was able to do this program everyday. From there, she grew in her sport quickly, and her love of the sport grew. She knew she wanted to go somewhere with it.
When she was a freshman, she was both excited and nervous for tryouts even though she trained harder than ever the summer before freshman year. On the first day of tryouts, she did not do her best. She thought she blew her chances of ever making the team. Just when she started to have negative thoughts about making the team, a senior team captain, Kaitlin McHugh (‘23), helped her through it. She comforted Fox, and let her play in her group instead. She took her under her wing and helped her. She ended up making the team as the seed two spot and had a lot of fun.
“I could tell very quickly that Maddie had a deep passion for the game and was dedicated even though she hadn’t played her best that exact day. In this sport, sometimes score isn’t everything, it’s the drive to improve and desire to compete, win or lose. I could tell Maddie had those qualities, so I offered to have her play in my pairing the next day. It was the best decision I made that day because we bonded soon after and now she gets to further improve and compete among fellow collegiate golfers,” said McHugh.

When it comes to playing in college, Fox is extremely excited. She’s been wanting to play in college ever since her passion for the sport started. She is incredibly thankful to the AHN golf team for helping her grow as a person and a golfer. She loved the team dynamic here at Academy, and she feels it will be even better in college.
Another reason why Presbyterian College is so special to Fox is because both her parents went there, which is how they met. Her mother was a cheerleader for the football team, and her father was a football player.
“I’m truly excited to see where these next steps will take me on my journey, I get the feeling it’s going to be somewhere great,” said Fox.
