Kate and Pippa at Academy’s Christmas Formal? Such an idea may seem preposterous, but such was the case in the Student Council’s original skit presented to high school students this past Wednesday, November 28.
The purpose of the yearly assembly is to address proper behavior for the upcoming Christmas Formal dance on Wednesday, December 19. Skit writers decided that the Royal Family would make an exellent source of advice on social etiquette.
SC members humorously demonstrated how to ask a date, pick an appropriate dress, greet the administrators in the receiving line, and behave on the dance floor. While fun and entertaining, this skit also proved very helpful for the new freshmen who have never been to Formal before.
This year’s skit was one of the best yet. Two of the stars, Juniors Laura Castillo and Hannah McLaughlin, portrayed sisters Kate and Pippa Middleton preparing for the dance. English accents added to the hilarity of the skit, along with impersonations of some of Academy’s administrators. The grand finale featured a group dance to the popular song “Gangnam Style.”
SC Secretary Madeline Cassidy said that members loved making the skit. “We all had so much fun portraying the Royal Family and making the student body laugh.”
Besides the skit, another highlight of the assembly was the announcement of the theme and location of Formal. The dance will take place at Mosi and have a circus theme, featuring live performers such as aerialists.
At the end of the assembly, Academy students applauded the time, effort, and creativity Student Council put into their skit and no doubt look forward to a night of dinner, dancing and circus acts on December 19.
