Academy Awards blew the audience away with talent!

From singing everyone’s favorite hits to dance and group performances, AHN witnessed a phenomenal show, hosted by the Senior Class of 2013,on Sunday evening, February 10, at 6pm, in the Brady Center.  Sophomore Siobhan Lynch captured first place, senior Rae Knopik took runner-up, and the senior group performing the cup song from the movie Pitch Perfect placed third.

Singers included senior Arlyn Barlaan, sophomores Kayla Rodriguez, Siobhan Lynch, and Maggie Brekka, and freshman Merline Lamour. Lynch and Barlaan played the guitar as they sing, and Lamour sang her song in French.  Sophomore Jacqueline Do played the piano and junior Nicole Perrella played her pink cello.

Junior Katherine Hobson performed with friends Siobhan Plummer and Hannah McCarthy.  This fun-loving group danced and lip synched to a mash up of old hits from the Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, and Britney Spears.  Senior Rae Knopik, who auditioned and was accepted to the dance program at the University of Florida next year, took the stage with an amazing dance solo.  Senior Amanda Bell performed her college audition monologue from well known play Antigone.  Finally, a senior group of Annie Polo, Amanda Schifino, Ryann McEnany, Lillian Giunta, Miranda Reddick, Caroline Sutton, and Demi Curbelo performed the cup, while talented singer and thespian Meghan Wallace sang.  The group had a fun twist using spray painted neon cups and a strobe light while they were perfectly insync.

Senior Li Stalder thought the event was a success and thoroughly enjoyed watching each performance.  “Everyone was so talented.  It must have been hard for the judges to choose the winners.”

Family and friends contributed to the performers’ scores by adding money to each act’s vase.  This money factored into the final score and placement.  Judges ranked each performance based on a rubric.  Special thanks to Jaguarettes dance team coach Mrs. Stephanie Zummo, Prinicipal Mrs. Camille Jowanna, science teacher Mr. Paul Sloshberg, President Mr. Art Raimo, and Sister Ann Regan SNJM for judging.

The Senior Class thanks everyone who supported the event and commends all the talented acts for performing.  The turnout and success of the talent show thrilled Senior Class president Cailin Dunne. “I am so happy!  It was awesome!  I am so thankful for everyone who helped me put the event together and I am really happy how it all turned out.”
