Seniors dance their way to victory on Fanatic Friday

From crazy sports fans to look-alike celebrities to the rolling Blue tide, Academy students and faculty closed this year’s Spirit Week with a bang.  “Fanatic Friday,” on February 1, allowed the Classes of 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 and their teachers to showcase school spirit throughout the day, ending with an all-school pep rally and closing out Catholic Schools Week.

The pep rally kicked off with a total of 20 students and teachers burying their faces into a plate of whipped cream to find the three hidden pieces of bubblegum to blow up.  Junior Katherine Hobson took the lead and finished first, individually.  Seniors Marisa Infante, Cailin Dunne, Gabriela Henderson, and Alex Bajo finished first as a team, adding even more points to the class in the lead.

An intense game of Dance Jeopardy followed the surprise pie contest, as well as an update on all AHN’s phenomenal sports from Athletic Director Mr. Kevin Vargas, and a fantastic Jaguarette performance.  With their classes roaring, the different teams unleashed their creativity and enthusiasm, dancing to songs ranging from “Gangnam Style” to “Rasputin” to “Single Ladies.”  The seniors claimed the victory title during this battle between the classes.

Along with the pep rally activities, AHN seniors won the week-long competition between grades, followed by the freshmen in second, juniors in third, and sophomores in fourth.

The best dressed for the day included Nicole Perrella and junior Victoria Martinez tied for first, teacher Mrs. DiPierro and junior KeTaira Phillips tied for second, and freshmen Anya Muyres and Ronnie Fair tied for third.

The locker room decorations added to the final scores.  The juniors won with their fun-filled summer themed locker room, followed by the sophomore’s spring locker room, the senior’s winter locker room, and the freshmen’s fall locker room.

Members of Golden Girls worked very hard all year to plan this week’s events.  The girls believe, along with the rest of the school, that this week and pep rally topped prior years and united their classes together, while allowing them to flourish in creativity and school spirit.
