Sister Lisa Perkowski’s homeroom won the best homeroom over all for their door.

The Holidays are approaching quickly and to celebrate, AHN girls are decorating their homeroom doors according to themes decided for them by the Golden Girls Spirit Club. They will be judged on their doors by Academy administration and be awarded spirit stick points, which will help determine which grade wins spirit week in January.

The Golden Girls devised the idea for the grades to compete in their festivities. As a prize to the most creative and festive homeroom, high school Principal, Stephanie Nitchals, has promised to bring donuts on Monday.

The door themes revolve around Christmas and are as follows: seniors will be decorating their doors as Christmas movies, juniors will be decorating theirs as Christmas music, sophomores are doing gingerbread houses, and freshmen are the North Pole.

Each grade level must be sure to decorate the door of every single homeroom or the grade as a whole receives no points. The windows in the doors cannot be covered and nothing can be projecting out of the door.

Sophomore Taylor Scott shares, “We decorated our homeroom with peppermint candies, gum drops, and snow to make our perfect gingerbread house. We had a lot of fun doing it.”

On Monday, December 5, 2016, after all the doors had been decorated Nitchals announced that the winners of the competition were art teacher, Sister Lisa Perkowski’s, homeroom with their door based on the song “All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth.”

Junior Jules LaVoy says, “I was really excited when I found out my homeroom won the door decorating contest. It was kind of funny how it happened because everybody was reading off Christmas song names, and thinking of crazy silly decoration ideas. But when “All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth” came up and somebody was joking about printing out our pictures and blacking out the two front teeth, everyone actually love the idea. The best part of the morning was how we all worked together. It was great.”

Overall, the door decorating competition allowed AHN girls to work together and get in the spirit for the upcoming holidays.
